On Saturday 8 September, The Hague takes the title of ‘Cultural Capital
of Europe’ for a day with the very first edition of The European LIFE I
LIVE festival set to take place on the historical Lange Voorhout. The
follow-up of the successful LIFE I LIVE FESTIVAL that transformed the city centre of The Hague into a swinging musical melting pot on 29 April, this free festival is an intimate yet international event that plans to grow
into a multi-day cultural festival over the coming years, and to form a
bridge to the LIFE I LIVE Festival in April (lifeilive.nl).
The festival programme includes a collection of music, art, theater and
debate, driven from diverse international collaborations. Festival-goers
are offered a true European discovery tour. Two outdoor stages offer live
shows featuring Irish singer-songwriter Christine Tobin, Flemish cabaret
ensemble Yevgueni, Foltin from Macedonia, the Dutch harpist and winner of the Edison Classical Music award 2012 Lavinia Meijer, and many more. Also on the programme is the phenomenal Maltese percussionist, composer and producer Renzo Spiteri, who has headlined at several festivals around the world and now, for the first time, can be admired in The Hague. In addition to a bursting cultural programme, young and promising trainee chefs from the kitchen of Jamie Oliver’s restaurant ‘FIFTEEN’ in Amsterdam ensure that a variety of European culinary traditions are represented.
